NORTHERN CAPE SOPA 2025

On March 6, 2025,Northern Cape Premier Dr. Zamani Saul delivered the state of the  Province Address (SOPA) at the Mittah Seperepere Convention Center in Kimberley.

The address focused on several key priorities for the Province including:

Infrastructure Development: Plans were outlined to upgrade the Upington airport to enhance its status as a central transport hub. Additionally a R2.5 billion investment in water infrastructure in Sol Plaatje Municipality aims to address ongoing water crises and transform Kimberley into a major construction site.

Renewable Energy initiatives: The Premier highlighted the importance of upgrading the power grid through investments from Eskom, positioning the Province as leaders in renewable energy and the green economy.

Economic Growth and Job Creation: The provincial government plans to stimulate the economy by focusing on job creation especially in sectors such as mining, agriculture, and infrastructure. This is part of a broader strategy to reduce poverty and unemployment. Additionally, the Northern Cape aims to leverage the State-Owned Construction Company to establish a large-scale construction hub, providing more jobs and growth opportunities for the province.

Education and Healthcare: The Premier outlined the efforts to enhance education and healthcare services, including the construction of new schools and health facilities, as well as improving the existing services to better meet the needs of communities.

Overall, the address aimed to create a vision of a more prosperous, equitable, and sustainable Northern Cape, with  concerted efforts in education, health, economic development and social justice.

Northern Cape, Provincial Information Society Strategy Stakeholder Session

The Northern Cape, Provincial Information Society Strategy Programme in the Republic of South Africa (INSPIRE) is nearing the completion of its work to develop an Information Society Strategy for the Province. Since 2008, with technical assistance from the Government of Finland, a re-iterative developmental approach, supplemented with a foresight methodology, has resulted in the first Information Society Strategy for the Province of the Northern Cape.

As a way of working towards the successful completion of the Strategy, the draft strategy will be engaged upon by relevant stakeholders in the Information society environment for their input. This session will take place as follows:

NSG HOSTS ETHICAL LEADERSHIP AND OVERSIGHT INDUCTION FOR NORTHERN CAPE MECS

The National School of Government is conducted a three-day induction programme for Members of the Executive Council of the Seventh Administration in the Northern Cape. 

This programme focussed on ethical leadership and executive oversight. In attendance were the Director General, Heads of Departments, and Chief Financial Officers.

The Ethical Leadership and Executive Oversight Programme is designed to assist members of the Executive in dealing with and managing various ethical challenges. Its objective is to promote a culture of effective oversight and moral leadership as outlined in the Constitution, the Executives Ethics Code, the PFMA, MFMA, and other relevant regulations.

The Premier, Dr Zamani Saul, in his opening address, encouraged Members of the  Executive Council and Senior leadership in the Administration to work harder in accelerating the pace at which services are delivered in order to gain a trust relationship with our people.

OFFICIAL HANDOVER & OPENING OF THE NEW “Mosalahuping Joseph Baicomedi” COMMUNITY CLINIC

The Honorable Premier of the Northern Cape, Ms Hazel Jenkins, the MEC of Health in the province, Mr Mxolisi Sokatsha, the Chairperson of the John Taolo Gaetsewe Development Trust- Ms Omphemetse Mogodi and the Chairperson of the Sishen Iron Ore Company Community Development Trust-Mr Connie Molusi officially handed over and opened the new Mosalashuping Baicomedi Community Clinic in Madibeng- Joe Morolong Local Municipality of the John Taolo Gaetsewe District.

This event was attended by Premier and her cabinet, the JTG trust members, Councilors in the District and huge contingent of community members from all villages in the Joe Morolong Local municipality.

The construction, official handover and opening of the new clinic have been made possible by the John Taolo Gaetsewe Development Trust. As the provincial government, we would like to extend our greatest appreciation for the Trust’s contribution and we value their efforts in contributing to improving the lives of the people in Madibeng

The Madibeng population of 2 500 and the surrounding villages & farms of Eiffel,Klein Eiffel,Caledonia,Avontuur,Tweet,Ebi and Eden will receive essential health care services from the newly build clinic.

The common health conditions of hypertension, TB & HIV and Chronic Diseases are experienced by the communities. The challenge of immunization coverage and substance abuse are prominent in the area.

The clinic was constructed at a cost of R6,970,870.61. Medical Equipment at the cost of R326,200 and Nurses House Furniture at the cost of R13,000 were also procured. The total number of community members employed in the project was 32, 23 males and 9 females.

The community will experience the following benefits from the new clinic namely improved access to health care services and quality of life, reduction in maternal and infant mortality,decrease in TB incidence rate,decrease in HIV new infection rate,decrease in deaths and disabilities caused by chronic diseases, improved maternal and child health

The following services will be rendered at the clinic: Comprehensive PHC package of Care (Chronic Care, TB Management, HCT, Reproductive Health services- Family planning and Cervical Screening, Health Education), Maternity services (Antenatal Care, Deliveries and Post Natal Care) ,Emergency Medical Services (Madibeng planned Satellite EMS Station),One Professional nurse and an Assistant Nurse will be on site from date of opening until full complement of staff is appointed.

The clinic will operate for 8hrs 5 days a week.

Regarding community participation, a Clinic Committee will be established with the assistance of the Ward Councilor and the Traditional Leadership. A Suggestion Box will be placed in the clinic for use by the community to raise concerns as well a come up with suggestions of service improvement..The communities will take full ownership of the clinic and assist by keeping it clean and free form vandalism.

The success of the project would not have been possible without the partners namely the Northern Cape Provincial Department of Health, John Taolo Gaetsewe District Development Trust, the John Taolo Gaetsewe District Municipality and Joe Morolong Local Municipality. This is a true reflection that working together, we can do more.
