The Acting Premier, Mr Bentley Vass joined by the MEC for Health, Mr Maruping Lekwene, MEC for Roads and Public Works, Ms Fufe Makatong, Executive Mayor of Namakwa, Mr Mervin Cloete, Chair of Chairs in the Northern Cape Provincial Legislature, Ms Merriam Kibi and Major General L. Ngubelmga officially launched the Provincial 16 Days of Activism for no Violence Against Women and Children campaign in Middelpos in the Hantam Municipality.
The 16 Days of Activism runs from 25 November to 10 December. During this period, we collectively raise our voices to draw attention to the persistent violence against women and children. However, a full year of action is required to combat gender-based violence and femicide, not just during these 16 days.
This year's theme, “30 Years of Advancing Collective Action to End Violence Against Women and Children,” serves as a reminder of the progress we have made and the work that still lies ahead. For the past 30 years the government has been united in a shared vision to create a world free from violence and discrimination.
In his address the Acting Premier highlighted the fact that the Northern Cape Province remains the safest Province and everyone should play their part in keeping it that way.
