The Northern Cape Provincial Government in partnership with Kumba Iron Ore, who has responded to the call by the President to partner with Government in the fight against the Covid-19 pandemic, will today be in Postmasburg to embark on a social relief programme. In addition to this Kumba Iron Ore has also provided masks, gloves, medical equipment (ie oxygen masks, respirators, and ventilators) and will establish a quarantine facility and isolation site that will serve the greater Tsantsabane Municipal area.

Accompanying the Premier, Dr Zamani Saul, will be the MEC's for Social Development and Roads and Public Works, Ms Barbara Bartlett and Mr Abraham Vosloo respectively and the Mayor of Tsantsabane Municipality, Mrs Mpho Mashila. In attendance will also be the CEO of Kumba Iron Ore, Mr Themba Mkhwanazi, the CEO of SIOC CDT, Mr Vusani Malie and senior officials from Kumba.

The Premier and delegation will use the opportunity to distribute food security packages to the communities of Groenwater, Boichoko, Jenn Haven, Maramane and Postdene and visit the District Hospital and proposed quarantine and isolation sites. Coupled with this exercise, they will also engage on an awareness campaign on COVID-19, its risks and preventative measures.

The visit is arranged as follows:
Date: Friday, 17 April 2020
Time: 10h30
Venue: Groenwater (thereafter proceeding to other areas and facilities)

The Premier welcomes this bold initiative by Kumba Iron Ore that will go a long way in helping the Northern Cape Provincial Government with the mammoth task of containing the spread of Covid-19.  Premier Saul calls on communities to cooperate with Government by being responsible and observing all lockdown protocols to help Government flatten the curve of the Covid-19.

The engagements will observe all lockdown regulations and will be attended by a limited number of people.
