The Provincial Government of the Northern Cape notes the announcement by the President, Mr Cyril Ramaphosa on measures to combat Covid-19 and welcomes the pro-active nature of the statement and the preventative and containments measures outlined. As a response to the issues raised, the Northern Cape Provincial Government is in the process of establishing a Provincial Command Council to respond to the different aspects of the Covid-19. While we have no confirmed cases in the Northern Cape that have tested positive for the virus, we already have in place Rapid Response Teams in all five Districts in the Province together with a team of Contact Tracers.
In order to further assess the Provincial readiness and reflect on some of the issues raised by the President, the Premier, Dr Zamani Saul, tonight held a meeting with the Department of Health led by the MEC, Ms Mase Manopole. More information pertaining to our Provincial Plans will be made available by Tuesday this week. We do however call on members of the community to remain on high alert and adhere to the Covid-19 pandemic protocols, chief amongst these being to wash your hands often with soap and water, practice cough hygiene and protect yourself and others from getting sick. We call on communities to remain calm and refrain from spreading fake news concerning the virus.
