The Bloodhound Supersonic Car arrived in the province and was unveiled in all its fully-assembled glory on 21stOctober 2019 in Haakskeenpan, Mierin the DawidKruiperMunicipality. The vehicle travelled all the way from Luxembourg in a semi-dismantled state and engineers re-attached the various sections in the Northern Cape desert. It boasts carbon fibre composite body work, a state of the art EJ200 Eurofighter Typhoon jet engine and utilises a Titanium 3D printed nose section which is vital for effective aerodynamics.
The high speed test programme will gradually build speed in 50miles per hour increments over a month to achieve record-setting speeds of over 800kilometres per hour.
Premier Dr ZamaniSaul states that the province has put its full support behind the Bloodhound team as it recognised the tremendous potential of this project. He adds: “Local beneficiation was of paramount importance and to ensure that the local communities continue to benefit in terms of employment and infrastructural improvements. However, the deciding factor was the fact that youth development and education play such a cardinal role in this project. The excitement of building a vehicle capable of breaking the land speed record is serving as inspiration to an entire generation of youngsters and reigniting an interest in science and technology. And our children will have the incredible opportunity of being part of history in the making.”
