The Premier of the Northern Cape, Dr. Zamani Saul, expressed his disbelief and sadness at the manner that two dedicated officers of the law lost their lives.
An attack on our police officers is viewed as a direct attack on the state and the matter should therefore be treated with the necessary urgency and attention it requires. We condemn such criminal acts of brutality in the strongest possible terms.
The two officers; 35-year-old Constable Okaetse Mandindi and 45-year-old Sergeant Kediemetse Masilo, died in the execution of their duties and as a Province we pay tribute to our fallen hero and heroine. We extend our heartfelt condolences to the families of the deceased officers, their colleagues, friends and the broader community who have been affected by this cowardly act, which is a total disregard for law, order and the value of life.
The Premier wishes to extend our appreciation to the SAPS, Northern Cape, led by General Otola for their swift response in apprehending the suspect and thereby avoiding further loss to life and property.
We condemn this incident in the strongest terms and we are confident that the matter will be dealt with in the appropriate manner.
May the memory of these police officers, their heroic actions, dedication and the passion with which they dispensed their duties serve as an inspiration to their colleagues and families. Their deaths should not be in vain and as the Provincial Government we salute them.
May God grant the family, friends and colleagues the patience and strength to deal with this tragedy.
