The Premier of the Northern Cape, Ms Sylvia Lucas, invites members of the media to a media breakfast to officially launch the Women’s Month Programme.
The month of August was declared Women’s month by the democratically elected government of South Africa following a series of political activism by women during the struggle for liberation.
Women’s month pays tribute not only to the thousands of women who marched on the 9th August 1956 but is also a tribute to the pioneers of the women’s movement in this country.
The Northern Cape Gender machinery that comprises of Provincial Government departments, NGOs, CBOs, Organised labour, civil society organisations and Political formation makes a collective effort to ensure that the struggle for women emancipation and the empowerment of women is the main focus during this month.
Ms Lucas will be joined by Members of the Executive Council, MPL’s, Mayors, Representatives from NGO’s and CBO’s, Chapter 9 Institutions and Senior Public servants.
