Premier Sylvia Lucas and Minister for Water Affairs and Sanitation Nomvula Mokonyane handed over the construction site of the multi – billion rand Vaal Gamagara Water Scheme. This project will see the upgrade of existing water infrastructure in the area. The first phase of construction will start from Roscoe in Kathu to Black Rock. About 12 mines, 14 livestock farms and 22 villages in the Gamagara Municipality, Joe Morolong Municipality will benefit from this water pipeline. Premier Lucas expressed her graditute to the national government for prioritizing the Vaal Gamagara Water Scheme. The Vaal Gamagara pipeline construction will create 1500 jobs in the area.
Minister Mokanyane expressed hope that with this construction local companies and entrepreneurs will also benefit from the project. She urged resident, mines and livestock farmers to use water sparingly with the current drought conditions in the country.
