The Premier of the Northern Cape, Ms Sylvia Lucas, on behalf of the Provincial Government, extends her deepest condolences to the family, friends and the people of the Khomani San on the passing of Mr Andries Steenkamp. At the time of his passing Mr Steenkamp served as Chairperson of the South African San Council.

Mr Steenkamp made a remarkable contribution to the development of the community he represented. He contributed selflessly to the youth, the community at large and the Khomani San people as a religious leader and community activist. He also advocated for the promotion and protection of the n/u language.
The passing of Mr Andries Steenkamp who was an outstanding leader, is a great loss to the people of the Khomani San and the Northern Cape Province as a whole. His contribution to improving the lives of the San community will be remembered and will form part of the rich legacy he leaves behind.
