The first Provincial Older Persons Parliament for the Sixth Administration is taking place at the Frances Baard District Municipality Chambers today, 03 October 2019. This engagement is facilitated through the partnership between South African Local Government Association (SALGA), The Department of Social development (DSD) as well as the Northern Cape Provincial Legislature.

Premier Dr Saul says that the current administration is aware of the various challenges that older persons face, from financial and physical abuse as well as neglect. He is pleased that a platform such as this will allow the older members of our society to have a voice and a space to be heard as they exercise their constitutional rights.

Premier further states that senior citizens are a repository of experience, a vital source of knowledge on various matters and their dignity should be restored by allowing them their rightful place in society.

“A society that does not value its older people denies its roots and endangers its future. Let us strive to enhance their capacity to support themselves for as long as possible and, when they cannot do so anymore, to care for them”-Nelson Mandela.
