Control of Access to Public Premises

Control of Access to Public Premises

The Control of Access to Public Premises and Vehicles Act of 1985, requires that all persons entering public premises should be searched in order to prevent access of dangerous and prohibited items, such as, firearms, dangerous weapons, explosives, drugs and alcohol. This procedure is done so that all persons are, and feel, safe and secured while performing their duties.

Security Management sought out  expert advice regarding the risks to exposure to radiation, that could affect food bags and containers. This was done after some concerns that led to food bags and containers not be put inside the scanners. The expert assured us that the Scanner machines emit non-iodised radiation which is harmless to food and people.

At the airports people, including pregnant women, and food, get scanned every day. The metal detectors do not have any radiation, they simply detect metal objects on a person who is passing. This is applicable to cell phones, laptop and any electronic device as well.

Security Management therefore notifies all OTP employees, visitors and contractors that as from 5 March 2018, all bags, food bags, containers, keys, cell phones will be required to be put inside the security scanners. Trays will be provided to put loose items to be scanned.

Your compliance and co-operation will be appreciated.
