The Premier of the Northern Cape, Dr. Zamani Saul has welcomed the PFMA 2023/24 audit outcomes as released by the Auditor General SA, Ms. Tsakani Maluleke earlier this week during a virtual roadshow.

The audit results show a significant improvement in the Provinces’ audit opinions for various Government Departments and entities for the audit cycle. The Province has achieved eight clean audits, the highest number recorded so far, an improvement from the two clean audits in 2019, 9 unqualified with findings and 4 qualified audit opinions.  However, there has been one instance of regression.

The Province has also recorded no unauthorised expenditure over the audit cycle which is a clear indication of the Provincial Government’s commitment to enhancing accountability and transparency across all departments. Premier Saul commended departments and entities for achieving clean audits and further encouraged these Departments to ensure that they maintain this achievement.

Furthermore, all Departments are expected to present to the Executive Council their Audit Action Plans on a quarterly basis. This is the accountability mechanism that will be implemented to ensure that the culture of accountability and consequence management are implemented. Premier Saul further emphasised the fact that institutionalising best practices and maintaining rigorous controls will ensure that all Departments record clean audits.

Premier Saul has also thanked the Auditor General, Ms. Tsakani Maluleke and her team for ensuring that Provincial Government remains accountable to the people of the Northern Cape. Provincial Government remains committed to ensuring that all resources are used to accelerate the delivery of services to it’s people.
