President Cyril Ramaphosa officially launched the first phase of the Good Green Deeds Programme at the International Convention Centre in East London. In responding to the call by the President, the Premier, Ms Sylvia Lucas led the Provincial campaign of the #GoodGreenDeeds. She was accompanied by the Minister of Environmental Affairs, Mr Derek Hanekom, MEC for Environmental Affairs and Nature Conservation, Ms Pauline Williams and the Executive Mayor of Sol Plaatje, Mr Patrick Mabilo, for a clean-up campaign of the Sol Plaatje Municipal area.

Today’s programme saw the identification of 8 waste hotspots and about 3000 volunteers comprising government officials, SANDF staff, CWP and EPWP workers joined hands to clean up the environment. The launch today also marked the start of a monthly programme to encourage citizens to keep the areas they live in clean but also to encourage the three R’s: Re-use, Reduce and Recycle
