As part of the Provincial Government’s re-opening of schools campaign the Premier of the Northern Cape, Ms Sylvia Lucas, paid a visit to schools in her Constituency are, Groblershoop, to ensure that learning and teaching takes place from the first day of the school year.

At all the schools, Ms Lucas was greeted with eager and excited learners and educators that were ready to tackle the school year. Surprisingly enough even the Grade one learners settled in well and put on a brave face for the start of their schooling career.

Mrs. Lucas was accompanied by the Speaker of the ZF Mgcawu District, Ms Mjila and the District Head of Education, Mr. Barends as well as other community leaders. At the assembly of the Ho?rskool Groblershoop, Mr. Barends had nothing but praise for the matric class of 2014 and challenged the matriculants of this school to obtain a 90% matric pass rate this year.

Ms Lucas reminded learners that they had the responsibility to be at school every day, neatly attired and to do their school work. Government will also do its bit to support you in achieving success, “For this reason we prioritized the Groblershoop library to ensure that learners can do proper research and have no hassles to complete their homework.” Ms Lucas went further to say that learners should not allow societal pressures to influence them and impact negatively on their studies, “When we look at you, we feel our sense of responsibility but we also need you to take responsibility for your own life.”

Ms Lucas handed over two Tablets to the two top matric achievers of Ho?rskool Groblershoop of 2014, who had already started at the University, to assist them with their studies.

She was pleased with progress made on the construction of the Sternham Primary School and wished all learners the best for the 2015 academic year.
