HOD Encourages Gr 12s
My dear 2010 Grade 12 Learners
Your National Senior Certificate Examination kicks off in just a few days’ time!
I understand that a few weeks ago many of you were feeling discouraged and frightened that you were perhaps not fully prepared for this momentous occasion in your lives. However, after so many of you went through our Spring Schools and Spring Camps during the September vacation, and actively participated in other interventions which formed part of the Department’s broad Recovery Plan, I have noticed that a new vibe, a new enthusiasm is making itself felt amongst you.
I wish to salute you for this enthusiasm! I wish to encourage you to approach each of your papers with this positive and enthusiastic spirit. Many doomsayers have been saying that the Matric Class of 2010 will deliver poor results in their final school examination; that the Soccer World Cup and Public Sector Strike disrupted teaching and learning to such an extent, that Matric candidates will not deliver the outcomes they are truly capable of.

Our Dear Grade 12s
Good morning!
Grade 12s, I came to inform you that nobody gets to write your destiny but you yourself.
Your future is in your hands. Your life is what you make of it. And nothing – absolutely nothing – is beyond your reach. So long as you are willing to learn and dream big. So long as you are willing to work hard. So long as you’re willing to stay focused on your education.
And this last part is absolutely essential – because an education has never been more important (than it is today). I am sure there will be times in the weeks ahead when you will be staying up late studying for your exams or dragging yourselves out of bed on a rainy morning, and wondering if it’s all worth it.
Let me tell you, there is no question about it. Nothing will have as great an impact on your success in life as your education.
